I guess it’s true when they say that time really flies when you are having fun.
Fun, in this case, are my blogs and my posts, developing the story line and the ensuing write-up, selecting the ‘right’ images to aid in the story to be told, and all that is related to the article that I intend on posting.
You see, every once in a while, I have this nagging urge to take another look at my blogs and see how it appears on-screen, the stories narrated, the images used etc.
And yes, you heard right the first time round. It’s the plural BLOGS and not the singular BLOG.
As some of my regulars (you know who you are and my utmost and sincere appreciation and thanks to you guys!) can vouch, I have done quite a bit of ‘overhaul’ to how my blogs appear on-line. For the better, I hope.
During the process of ‘overhauling’, I do, at times, re-read my posts and mind you, there were occasions when I had a quiet chuckle to myself or even a cringe, and asked myself the question, ‘did I actually write that!?’.
In equal measure, I might add.
But to correct them and change the storyline, it’s a given that I’d not do that. After all, the stories I posted were reflective of my thoughts AT that moment in time.
And that is the essence of my blogs : THAT moment in time.
Some of the posts were reflective, some were moody, and some were just stories or opinions that needed to be told or shared. According to moi, but of course.
It was during one of those ‘overhauling’ processes that I discovered, with some degree of wonder I must admit, that I had officially became a member of the blogging community when I posted my first ever post, way back in November 2011.
Entitled, ‘Welcome to the World of Nachmeinemeinung!’, it was posted on the 30th of November 2011 and if I might add, that was my first attempt at writing and as any new blogger will tell you, there was a feeling of trepidation as to whether somebody out there would actually read what you just posted.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I have written Board papers, investment proposals, status reports, progress reports and whatever paper that might exist in the corporate world but a piece to be read by others unbeknown to you, that’s another ball game altogether.
Thus far, it has been a very interesting journey. The delight and elation when you discover that what you have written is actually being read and even given a thumbs-up, from near and far, is indescribable.
So interesting the journey has been that at the present moment in time, I have four active blogs under my nom de plume. Used to have five until I discovered that whatever I have to write about my favourite football team, Liverpool, has already been written by countless others and mine pales (seriously!) in comparison.
I love the game of football (or soccer as it more well-known in the US of A) and that’s a given. I have been supporting Liverpool since the tender age of twelve, when Shankly was the Boss.
I am now in my mid fifties, Klopp is now in charge of the Mersey Reds and I can put hand on heart and with a clear conscience say that I am not a recent addition to the Kop.
But as I said, there are many others more articulated than I am. So I leave it at that.
Why four blogs, some of you may wont to ask. I guess the ‘I in Me’ (or is it the ‘Me in I’) is to be blamed for that.
I am one for compartmentalization and hence, true to the OCD in me, I have a blog for my travels (alas all domestic thus far) named ‘Have Blog Will Travel’ (shahscorner.com), one for my photography efforts named, creatively I might add, ‘Shah’s Photography’ (shahs.photography), one for my political views (tame, I should think) ‘Politics As I See It’ (meandpolitics.wordpress.com) and of course, last but not least, for a combination of my thoughts, my rants, my moods and my whatever, this blog ‘Nachmeinemeinung’.
And to think that all this started when, on one fine day, my better half, after years of being my sounding board and hearing my non-stop comments on ‘everything and everything on everything’, be they be political, social or what not, just ‘snapped’ and tells me right there and then, that since I have so much to say about a lot of things, why don’t I just write a blog and state my case there.
Well, in her defence, I might add, she did ‘snapped’ in a very nice, approachable and loving way (nudge nudge, wink wink). With words of encouragement even. Was is it not so Yang?
Admittedly, when I first started, it was a challenge. So many questions, so many issues and absolutely no idea where to start to look for answers.
Seven years down the road, I must say that I am still having fun writing articles and have them posted, whenever, with not a rush to meet some imaginary deadline or what not. The delight and elation when your piece is read and even ‘liked’ has remained the same as the first time seven years ago.
I also found out a long time ago, when you are pressured to write something, you would either go blank or whatever you wrote is nowhere even near satisfactory to you. The best pieces are always, for me anyway, are when you write cos you want to write, to just tell or share a story.
What the future holds with regards to my continued presence in the blogging community, who knows but as long as I am a member, I am pretty sure there will always be new stories to write about and share.
For so long as I am having fun writing, I would also hope that the posts would also be fun and interesting to read as well.
After all, it’s never easy to tell a good story, what more to make your readers wanting more.
Just ask them best-selling authors. They’d tell you the same.
